BOSTON — Community leaders and anti-violence groups are calling for a moment of silence in memory of four people who were killed last week in Boston’s Mattapan neighborhood, including a 2-year-old boy and his mother.

Organizers are hoping people across the Boston area will participate by being silent for a minute at noon Tuesday in schools, in workplaces, religious institutions and on the streets.

The event is meant to give people an outlet to express their compassion for the victims.

Five people were found shot early Sept. 28. Killed were 2-year-old Amani Smith; his mother, 21-year-old Eyanna Flonory; her boyfriend, 21-year-old Simba Martin; and 22-year-old Levaughn Washum-Garrison. The fifth victim, 32-year-old Marcus Hurd, is hospitalized in critical condition.

Police have not disclosed a motive.
