– Roxbury, MA – On Thursday, January 20th 2011, Cornell Mills Candidate for District 7 City Council joins with 5 additional candidates vying for the council seat vacated by Chuck Turner. The District 7 Special Election Candidate’s forum is sponsored by The New Democracy Coalition in conjunction with The Center for Church and Prison, Union of Minority Neighborhoods, The College for Public and Community Service, VoteCorps and The New Commonwealth Civic Forum.
Invited Candidates include Cornell Mills, as well as Danielle Renee Williams, Natalie E. Carrithers, Althea Garrison, Roy Owens and Tito Jackson. The forum is being held at the Roxbury YMCA located at 285 Martin Luther King Blvd. in Roxbury beginning at 6:30 pm and ending at 8:30 pm and will be moderated by Keith L. Chaney.
The event promises to be well attended in anticipation of a heated campaign to fill the District 7 council seat. Community members within the neighborhoods which make up District 7 have expressed high interest in who will be their next City Councillor. In the community while canvassing neighborhoods, one elderly woman was heard stating “I just want to hear what they are all about and what they are going to do for Roxbury.”
