Local Black Elected Officials not involved; Southie Pols chosen for Urban League convention finale

The Blackstonian has learned that local Black Elected Officials have no level of involvement with the Urban League convention. No Panel, or other participation beyond a general invite in which the Elected Official is expected to pay the Convention Fee. However, the send off of the event is an event featuring all white politician’s from South Boston. Many of who have a questionable record on issues affecting People of Color.

And, Williams says, a special send-off reception is in the works, to be hosted by South Boston elected officials — Irish-Americans like State Senator Jack Hart, City Councilor Bill Linehan, and State Representative Nick Collins, who lived through the busing wars. That could be an important gesture. (Massachusetts Convention Center Authority James Rooney, who is playing a critical role in the planning, is also a Southie native.)
