Worcester library bars white pride group
WORCESTER — The Worcester library’s board of directors has voted to suspend the rights of a white pride group to use the facility’s meeting rooms after an online video suggested there might be violence at the next meeting.
The YouTube video announces North East White Pride’s meeting at 3 p.m. Saturday and invites people to show up with bike locks. Board members said the reference is to an assault that allegedly took place on June 4, when about 10 people, some masked, barged into a White Pride meeting. One was carrying a metal bike lock.
The Telegram & Gazette reports that board members Wednesday decided that in addition to suspending the group’s privileges for 90 days, the board will develop a policy for reserving meeting space.
The group has said it does not promote violence.
