Last Poets Juneteenth Write Up on Boston Herald

The Last Poets show tonight was written up in The Boston Herald Arts & Entertainment section. Tickets: blackstonian.com/thelastpoets.

The revolution will be lyricized.

Tomorrow night, iconic spoken word and musical group the Last Poets will perform at Hibernian Hall in Roxbury.

The event honors June-teenth — an African-American holiday that commemorates the announcement of the Emancipation Proclamation and the end of slavery.

“If you do not know where you’ve been, you won’t know where you’re going,” said Civil Rights Movement-era poet Abiodun Oyewole, 62, one of the founding members of the Last Poets.

Through powerful lyrics- in compositions like “Time,” “Just Because” and the popular piece “When the Revolution Comes,” Oyewole told the Herald, the group uses poetry “to heal and empower.”
