Spoken-word legends ‘The Last Poets’ to perform in Roxbury

The smooth sounds and righteous lyrics of “The Last Poets,” a direct link to the creators of modern hip-hop and spoken word poetry, will be coming to Roxbury this Saturday.

It seems fitting that a group that got its start at a rally honoring Malcolm X in Harlem in 1968 will be playing a show to celebrate Juneteenth, the day the United States commemorates the emancipation of the slaves, but with their revolutionary lyrics, thought provoking message, and overall celebration of African-American history and culture it fits right in.
