HOURS OF WORK: 12 hrs/wk during afternoons/evenings and weekends, September through June

The Youth Involvement Subcommittee of the Cambridge Kids’ Council is a group of young people, ages 14 to 18, working with adult supporters to increase youth participation in the civic life of Cambridge, through opportunities created by and for young people. The Youth Engagement Coordinator will work in partnership with the subcommittee members to provide supervision and support to them on their projects and activities. The Youth Engagement Coordinator will report to the Executive Director of The Kids’ Council.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Coordinate subcommittee activities
• Train and assist youth in recruitment of subcommittee members
• Advise youth on project planning and implementation (i.e. strategies, city and legal guidelines, resources, etc.)
• Assist youth in identifying, accessing and securing necessary resources and information to facilitate their work
• Keep account of dispensation of stipend to youth member and their participation, interests, and commitment in civic activities
• Assist youth to track progress of projects
• Assist youth in the preparation and production of materials and other forms of documentation for subcommittee projects
• Plan, design, organize, and implement age appropriate projects, activities, and leadership development skills
• Work with Youth Involvement Subcommittee Co-chairs to plan and facilitate meetings
• Be a positive role model to youth and develop meaningful relationships with Youth Involvement Sub-committee members

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
• Bachelor’s Degree in related field required
• Extensive knowledge about youth development and youth work
• Experience in organizing and working with culturally diverse communities
• Experience in planning and implementing small and large scale projects with youth
• Knowledge in research principles and skills
• Strong organizational and facilitation skills
• Needs assessment skills
• Conflict resolution skills
• Strong oral and written communication skills
• Strong leadership, organizational and team building skills
• Knowledge of the City of Cambridge preferred

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Ability to access, input and retrieve information from a computer. Ability to answer phones and maintain multiple files. Must be able to lift a minimum of 10 pounds and have the mobility to travel throughout the city.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: Standard office environment. Fluorescent lighting, carpeted floors and air conditioning. Moderate noise level.

RATE: $25/hour
