Synopsis:
An adaptation of the 90’s classic Hey Arnold cartoon – episode: “Stoop Kid”. As Arnold and the gang are playing football in their neighborhood, Arnold kicks the ball a bit too far, only to land on the most revered stoop in town – that of Stoop Kid. He is a local legend/villain, known for verbally abusing passers-by, assaulting anyone near his stoop, and most importantly, NEVER leaving his stoop. The gang assumes that the ball now belongs to Stoop Kid, and Arnold ruined their fun time for losing it. However, Arnold will not stand for some silly legend. Using his wit, he runs past and snags the ball before Stoop Kid can catch him and takes off. He realizes that Stoop Kid actually will NEVER leave his stoop, rendering him more of a coward than a guardian. At that, the entire neighborhood turns this upon him, chanting “Stoop Kids afraid to leave his stoop!” The rest of the story involves Arnold feeling bad for exposing Stoop Kid’s weakness on such a large stage, so he tries to teach Stoop Kid a greater lesson. You cannot stay at home your whole life because you are scared of the bigger world. If you love the things you have at home, just imagine what else lies out there for you.

Note from the Director:
My name is Drew Curry. I am from New York, and am a senior Film major at University of Rhode Island. I have been making films for about 5 years now. I am extremely excited to start working on this project because it is a storythat many people my age know and love from our childhood. We are going to have a lot of fun on this shoot. It’s going to be very nostalgic and innovative at the same time. If all goes well, we are sure to have an awesome reaction at the first screening and then more to come.

Character Name & Descriptions:

Arnold: Blonde hair, male, 18-22. Overly nice and loyal friend to Gerald and the gang. Has the challenge of teaching a very stubborn Stoop Kid to go out and see the world.

Stoop Kid: Male, early-mid 20s. Grungy, facial hair (preferably). Longer hair that can be made to look “messy”. Stoop Kid is basically a juvenile delinquent. Very obnoxious to anyone walking by his stoop. Picks on little kids. At first hewants to pulverize Arnold. He then begins to realize that he needs Arnold if he ever wants to learn.

Casting Information: Email headshots, resumes, current location and availability.

Audition Information: Full script table reads with camera recording. No need to be off-book but that is a plus. Would meet at a time and place to be determined after hearing back from actors.

Synopsis:
A traveler wanders down a path with a bag on his back and runs into a mysterious man sitting at a randomly placed table. When the traveler approaches the man at the table he notices something is off – he won’t stop staring up at the sun. The man explains he is stuck, and that time ceases to exist on this path. Curious, the traveler questions the man and the two then embark on a conversation that leads them to the truth.

Note from the Director:
This project is going to have a very heavy pace to it. There is no real “drama” between the two characters and more emphasis is put on the realistic nature of the conversation. There will be a lot of room to improvise and make choices that stay within the lines of what the story asks. There will also be a lot of dead space between the two characters as they are located in what is essentially a different dimension. Both characters feel this odd presence, but can’t place their fingers on what is wrong. In a way, there is an eerie feeling throughout the entire conversation. Facial expressions are key. We need to see how nervous the traveler is and how frozen in awe the man at the table is.

Character Names; Descriptions:

The Traveler – A young man, can play mid-twenties, dresses like a hiker, athletic-looking, easy-going, curious, well-prepared, questioning, not-easily swayed, friendly, easily freaked out, determined, ultimately a normal individual thrown into an odd circumstance.

The Healer (or man at the table) – A slightly older man, can play mid-twenties to mid-thirties, unkempt, unhealthy-looking, wears strange robe-like clothing, very detached from reality, fixated on one thing at a time, speaks softly and calmly.
