Program Overview:
Project GPS: Graduate, Perform, Succeed is a Talent Search initiative hosted by Roxbury Community College (RCC). The goal of Project GPS is to increase the number of youth from disadvantaged backgrounds who graduate from high school and enroll in and complete their postsecondary education. The program assists students in moving from middle school through high school and college to graduation by providing creative and engaging educational services, programs, and experiences. The program provides academic, career, and financial counseling to its participants and encourages them to graduate from high school and continue on to complete college. Project GPS is seeking energetic educators to teach during its summer enrichment program designed to prepare rising 9th graders for a successful transition to high school.
Students enrolled in summer enrichment program represent a wide range of learning styles, including ESL learners, advance work classes, and students in regular education classes.
Teaching Positions:
Project GPS seeks teachers in the following subject areas: English Language Arts Science Theatre/Drama Instructor
Responsibilities: Teach 1 two hour class daily of 15 students, meeting 4 times per week Plan lessons based on curricular skills, and facilitate classes Attend weekly faculty meetings Teachers may have other responsibilities for administering the summer session
Supervision Received: Teachers report to Talent Search Project Director
Supervision Exercised: Students in your class
Qualifications:
All candidates must have legal authorization to work in the United States B.S. Degree in the related field from an accredited institution; Teaching Certification and experience in subject area;
Familiarity and interest in working with a diverse population.
Salary Range: $26.00 – $30.00/per hour (12 hours per week)
Time span: July 8-August 23, 2013 (a mandatory orientation will be held on June 26th)
