Broadside: Rep. Henriquez’s defense takes issue with assault convictions

(NECN) – The attorney for Mass. state Rep. Carlos Henriquez, who was convicted of assaulting his former girlfriend in 2012, says her client is innocent.

Attorney Stephanie Soriano Mills says she wonders how the jury got it wrong.

“This is a scenario where three out of the five charges he was acquitted of, but the three out of the five charges that arose out of the same set of circumstances that Katherine Gonzalez claimed happened on that night, so there isn’t an independent witness, there’s no corroboration. Basically Katherine Gonzalez got on the stand, she testified to what she said happened in that car and three of the things the jury believed were absolutely untrue and found him not guilty on,” she says.
