A Boston private driver is charged with sexually assaulting the 12-year-old child he drives to and from school.
“We are concerned that this may not be an isolated incident, and we want to assure parents that any information they provide will be thoroughly and sensitively investigated,” Suffolk DA Kevin Hayden said.
Boston Police arrested Fausto Abreu, 60, of Boston, on Thursday after the child’s mother filed a police report on June 1. He was formally charged in municipal court in Dorchester on Friday with three counts of indecent assault and battery on a person under 14.
Judge Nicholas Brandt set bail at $5,000. Should Abreu post bail, he would be subject to GPS monitoring and the condition to not drive any children and to stay away from and have no contact with the alleged victim and other children. He is scheduled to return to court on July 20.
Abreu has been transporting the alleged victim since September 2025 after the child’s mother met him through a friend’s referral on Facebook, according to the Suffolk DA’s office.
The alleged victim said Abreu had “put his hand close to her genitals” on multiple occasions and had also, on at least three occasions, conducted sexual phone conversations with a woman while the child was in the vehicle.
She reported the behavior to her teachers on May 29 and on that day school staff forbade Abreu from driving her home and contacted the child’s mother.
The Boston Police Department says that at the time of his arrest, Abreu had active warrants for three counts of indecent assault and battery on a child under 14.
The police say they are investigating the possibility of additional victims and ask anyone with any information to contact the Boston Police Crimes Against Children Unit at 617-343-6183. People can provide information anonymously through the Crime Stoppers Tip Line by calling 1-800-494-TIPS (8477) or texting the word “TIP” to CRIME (27463).
