‘UTTER FAILURE’: The Rev. Mark V. Scott voices concern over the failure of the black community to speak up about violence against women after the conviction of ex-state Rep. Carlos Henriquez.
Rep. Henriquez speaks 39:45 – 46:10
The NAACP, New England Area Conference (NEAC), respectfully requests that the Massachusetts House of Representatives abstain from voting in the matter of the expulsion of Representative Carlos Henriquez, expected to come before the House today.
“Resolutions urging the expulsion of the Honorable Carlos A. Henriquez, Representative from the Fifth Suffolk District from the Massachusetts House of Representatives”, which will be published as House, No. 3894.
Throughout this process, I have found it imperative to separate opinion from fact. Everyone has an opinion, to which each of us is entitled. We are also all capable of seeking facts through effort and critical independent thought. Facts can be proven.
State Rep. Carlos Henriquez granted an interview to Wesley Lowery of the Boston Globe
If you live in Roxbury/Dorchester and feel strongly that Carlos has helped the community/ 5th Suffolk District
please take the time to write the Speaker and share with him how you feel
The verdict from the trial of State Representative Carlos Henriquez has left the community reeling in disbelief and extremely frustrated. The media frenzy and tongue wagging campaign has not lent itself to the reality of the case and the trial itself. Here we will point out some major concerns from the trial made up of a combination of testimony from witnesses and media reports from the trial.
“This is a scenario where three out of the five charges he was acquitted of, but the three out of the five charges that arose out of the same set of circumstances that Katherine Gonzalez claimed happened on that night, so there isn’t an independent witness, there’s no corroboration. Basically Katherine Gonzalez got on the stand, she testified to what she said happened in that car and three of the things the jury believed were absolutely untrue and found him not guilty on,” she says.
