Rep. Tweets Frustration Over Traffic Stop; Commissioner Defends Officers' Actions

Rep. Tweets Frustration Over Traffic Stop Commissioner Defends Officers’ Actions POSTED: 6:12 pm EDT July 5, 2011 UPDATED: 6:39 pm EDT July 5, 2011 SEE VIDEO AND FULL STORY HERE: http://www.thebostonchannel.com/politics/28454703/detail.html#ixzz1RKaSyJHG BOSTON — A state representative is questioning whether Boston police used excessive response during an incident that he felt was a simple traffic stop. Rep. Carlos Henriquez isn’t the most recognizable lawmaker on Beacon Hill. He’s only been in office since January. Boston police didn’t know his job title either when they stopped him outside his house along with two friends. “Police pull up next to us and activate their lights and ask us to stay in the car,” Henriquez said. His friend’s car was missing a front license plate. “I asked why we were stopped, and the officer told the driver, ‘Tell your friend to calm down. Sit Back He has a lot of mouth.’ I was a little taken aback by that. The response I got was, ‘what does that matter to you? How dare you ask?’” Henriquez said. Speak Out! Congress coming to Boston Wed. July 20

MassUniting.org is hosting the Progressive Members of Congress on Wednesday July 20th at Prince Hall in Grove Hall. While the congressional debate schedule will keep our Members of Congress in Washington until next week, some issues here in Boston are too important to not speak out on. That’s why we’re moving forward with a Community Speakout & Action on jobs and the economy this coming Wednesday, July 20. It’s no secret that our community is facing many challenges these days. Many people are out of work and have little hope of finding a job. Hundreds have been forced from their homes due to foreclosure. Tight budgets have closed schools and community centers, leaving our youth with few opportunities. It’s time for change, and we need to speak out and take action on these and so many other issues that harm our neighborhoods. Please join us Wednesday, July 20 from 6:00pm to 7:30pm to share your story. From there, we’re taking to the streets in support of neighbors who are facing foreclosure and eviction.
