Former Madison Park star Malik Smith to sign with Florida International

Former Boston Herald All-Scholastic Malik Smith of Madison Park will sign a National Letter of Intent to play basketball for new coach Richard Pitino at Florida International University.

A 6-oot-2 shooting guard, Smith poured in more than 26 points a game in leading the the Cardinals to the Division 1 South sectional semifinals in 2007 before transferring to Notre Dame Prep. While at ND Prep, Smith averaged 16 points, four assists, five rebounds and two steals per game

Smith is set to graduate this month from Jacksonville College in Jacksonville, Texas. He was an All-Conference selection this season under coach Jody Bailey.

He is a product of the BABC (class of 2009), a group which includes the likes of Alex Oriakhi (UConn/Missouri), Phil Pressey (Missouri), Jamal Coombs (UConn/Hofstra), Gerard Coleman and Ron Giplaye (Providence) as well as Daryl Bishop (playing football at NC State).
