Youth Program Leader

The Boys & Girls Clubs of Middlesex County provide young people with:
• A safe place to spend time during non-school hours and the summer as an alternative to the streets or being home alone.
• A chance to play, have fun, laugh and learn.
• Opportunities to build new skills that raise each child’s belief that he or she can succeed and receive recognition for personal accomplishments.
• Ongoing relationships with caring adults and connections to new friends in a positive environment, reinforcing a sense of belonging, personal accountability, civility and civic responsibility.

Position Overview
The ideal candidate will be a flexible and creative individual with a proven track record in youth development programs in a low income, ethnically diverse setting.
Information
Hours: Monday -Friday 1:30 – 6:30 p.m. (25 hrs/wk)
Salary: $10 – $12/hour commensurate with experience

Roles and Responsibilities include but not limited to:
• Develop, implement and evaluate age-appropriate activities that focus on the areas of academic success, healthy lifestyles and good character and leadership

• Assist Club members with homework

• Provide guidance and life skills: manage supervision and discipline of members

• Be a liaison to community program partners

• Maintain cleanliness of program areas, ensure safety of Club members

• Ensure that members’ self-esteem is maintained or enhanced by use of the strengths based Youth Development Strategy.

• Act as an advocate of our members, the Club, and the overall organization, both inside and outside the Club.

• Review programs, services, and activities to ensure they meet stated objectives and member needs and interests.

• Supervise and discipline club members as appropriate, assuring they are held accountable for their behavior.

• Develop and implement programs and events with staff from other club departments as well as from other BGCMC clubhouses and community organizations.

• Other duties as specified by Club Director

Skills / Knowledge required:

• High School degree required, Associates and/or Bachelor’s degree preferred
• Minimum of one year of experience in a Boys & Girls Club or similar organization planning and supervising activities based on the developmental needs of youth aged 6-15.
• Ability to foster and promote a positive work environment.
• Ability to pass a background check
• Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
• Ability to model a professional appearance and team attitude
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Ability to work sensitively and effectively with individuals of diverse backgrounds.
Positions available in:
Medford: candidate with interests and skills in ART preferred
Cambridge: candidate with interests and skills in MENTORING and HEALTH/FITNESS preferred
