A 32-year-old man was grievously wounded in a Dorchester shooting last night outside his Leyland Street home, Boston police said.

Police officers on the scene said the unidentified man was shot “multiple times, at least once in the head,” not far from his house. They said his injuries were life-threatening.

Friends who gathered on the street outside his home said the shooting victim had left his girlfriend and their 1-year-old daughter, riding on a bicycle, to buy cigarettes. After traveling only a short distance, he was gunned down, friends said.

Police cordoned off a large section of the Dorchester street, encircling a fallen bicycle and a car. Police investigators placed evidence markers around a number of spent shell casings and bullet holes in the car.

The shooting victim was rushed to Boston Medical Center for emergency treatment, police said.

Homicide investigators responded quickly to Leyland Street, which intersects with East Cottage Street about a block away, where another man was killed barely a month ago.

A friend of the victim who declined to be identified said, “He was a real good dude. A family man.”

Another man who said he grew up with the victim said the victim and his girlfriend had recently celebrated their daughter’s first birthday.

“He wasn’t doing anything. He had no beefs with anybody.”

Police last night said they were looking to talk to the driver of a black Cadillac SUV and asked anyone with information to call             1-800-494-TIPS       or text 27463.
