Duties:

Provides instruction in the areas of English, reading, math, science and social studies. Provides individualized instruction in the area of pre-GED and GED so that the inmate’s educational needs are assessed and met. Maintains accurate and up to date records of inmate’s progress and attendance. Develops appropriate curriculum. Prepares and compiles “good-time” rosters, evaluations, registrations, behavioral objectives check lists, etc. Prepares and prioritizes books and supplies order for presentation and justification to Grant Manager. Participates in staff meetings as requested. Calls inmates in units and other areas for absenteeism from classes. Serves on Special Interest Group (SIG) on a monthly basis to review all areas of the program. Participates in staff development that increases knowledge of correctional issues and correctional education. Performs other related duties, as required.

Preferred Qualifications:

Current Massachusetts Teacher Certification. Teaching experience. Knowledge of principles, methods, and practices in education. Working knowledge of tests and measurements. Ability to work with inmates, teaching staff and administration. Knowledge of institution schedules and procedures. Ability to use individualized approach to educational instruction. Ability to teach a “delinquent” adult population. Knowledge of principles and practices in correctional education.

This is a part-time contract position with options to renew. No benefits.
