According to BPD Boston: 24 Crime Data from Tuesday and Yesterday, there was one non-fatal shooting between Tuesday and Wednesday and two between Wednesday and Thursday 10 am, one of which was the shooting in Mattpan reported by Universal Hub. Last night, shootings in Mattapan and Roxbury left two people with gunshot wounds. In Mattapan the homicide unit was called in to investigate due to the severity. Early this morning a double shooting in the South End at W. Newton and Tremont streets left two more wounded around 2:15 am. This makes the total number of shootings in Boston (where people were hit, fatal and non-fatal) at least 161 since the Boston Marathon and out of that at least 20 people died from their wounds. This marks the 6th gun murder and 61st shooting since the Blackstonian and participants in the ‘Rally For Solutions’ held at city hall presented suggestions and demanded a community meeting with the Mayor and Police Commissioner to address public concerns about policing and public safety. There have been no response from the Mayors office to at least 5 phone calls and numerous emails, tweets and other correspondence. Today marks Ed Davis’s last day on the job as Boston’s Police Commissioner. He leaves his post has still not having addressed these citizen concerns about BPD response to violence and public safety.
