Murder on Humboldt; 2 Shot in Grove Hall; 149 Shootings Since Boston Marathon
According to @Stacos the shooting this afternoon were at 5 Hartwell street and Blue Hill Ave &. W. Cottage St. where crime scenes were established. Police initally responded to calls of multiple shots fired in the area of 21 Hartwell. A man was reported shot in the leg. According to BPD Reports: A short distance away, at the intersection of West Cottage and Blue Hill Avenue, officers were flagged down by a male victim in a motor vehicle who stated he too had been shot at 21 Hartwell Street and was on his way to the hospital. The male victim also in his twenties was transported to Boston Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries. More on Universal Hub There was also a murder this thursday on Humboldt Ave. Again according to BPD: At about 9:27pm, Thursday, October 17, 2013, Officers from District B-2 (Roxbury) respond to a person shot, in the area of 280 Humboldt Avenue. On arrival, officers observed a male victim inside a SUV parked at the curb. The victim was pronounced deceased on scene. This marks the 5th gun murder and 46th shooting since the Blackstonian and participants in the ‘Rally For Solutions’ held at city hall presented suggestions and demanded a community meeting with the Mayor and Police Commissioner to address public concerns about policing and public safety. Shooting in Mattapan; at least 99 Shootings Since Boston Marathon
There was another shooting in Mattapan last night. At around 9:25 pm at 15 Wilmore St. According to Universal Hub, because of the severity of the victim’s injuries, the homicide unit was called in. Two possible suspects were reported: Two black men, in their 20s, on mopeds, one red, the other possibly black. On July 21, a man was shot in the neck a few doors down at 19 Wilmore St., also by a man who fled on a moped. BPD reports 1 non-fatal shooting took place last weekend that we have no other information about. Since starting this list we have been getting unconfirmed and unverified reports of shootings from various sources but due to a lack of specific details and information about when and where these incidents have taken place, we have not added them to our list. If anyone has more information about any shootings not on this list, please contact Blackstonian at 617.297.7721. This brings the total number of shootings in Boston (where people were hit, fatal and non-fatal) to at least 99 since the Boston Marathon. According to Boston Police Crime stats, as of July 23, non-fatal shootings since the beginning of 2013 are up 16% over last year and homicides with a firearm are up 64%. 6 Shootings over the 4th of July brings total to 81 since Boston Marathon
Update to the 4th of July Shootings: In addition to the male shot in the chest across the street from the Mattapan B2 Police District, there were 4 other shooting incidents around the city. At 12:57 AM, one male suffered a non life threatening gunshot wound to the buttocks and leg at 10 Lattimore Ct, SE The suspects took off in an unknown direction and have not been apprehended. At 2:17 am at the corner of Brinsely St and Geneva Ave. one man was shot outside on the street nearby his home. 13 minutes later a female was brought into Boston Medical Center for a gunshot wound which she stated occurred at the same location in Dorchester. At 5:31am at 19 Leroy St, Dorchester, a call came in for a male shot outside near the address who suffered a non-life threatening wound to the leg. No suspects were apprehended. This marked 4 shootings before 6 AM. The next shooting of July 4th was the Morton St. BLue Hill Ave Shooting at 8:24 pm. The final shooting of the day rang out at 11:53 pm at 44 Everton St. in Dorchester where one male was shot in the leg. Suspects took off prior to police arrival. This makes total of 6 shootings in one day. This brings the total number of shootings in Boston to 81 since the 2013 Boston Marathon.
