The Environment & Human Rights committee public hearing has been rescheduled for Tuesday, December 18th at 3:00 PM to be held in the Iannella Chambers on the fifth floor of the Boston City Hall.
Commissioner Davis has stated that the BPD is diverse and that they have done all they could do to ensure its diversity.
Here is the proof that Mayor Menino and BPD Commissioner Ed Davis are wrong and that the City of Boston is not diverse in its governance.
Mayor Menino has long touted his commitment to diversity in the City of Boston. Recently, when criticized by organizations such as MAMLEO and others, including the Blackstonian, the Mayor said the City of Boston is diverse and he challenged anyone to prove him wrong.
The Blackstonian accepted that challenge.
Here is the proof that Mayor Menino is wrong and that the City of Boston is not diverse in its governance.
Boston Mayor Thomas Menino vetoed a controversial redistricting plan for the city, after it narrowly passed Boston City Council by a vote of 7 to 6. The plan proposed by Redistricting Chair, City Councillor Bill Linehan, was criticized by several Community groups and Black/Latino activists for not fairly handling citizens of color who now make up the majority of the city. The groups had planned to sue if this plan would have been approved.
In an article in the Boston Herald dated July 20, 2012, you are quoted as saying, “You can’t have a business in the city of Boston that discriminates against a population. We’re an open city, we’re a city that’s in the forefront of inclusion”. We agree that any kind of discrimination should be unwelcomed in the City of Boston.
I’m glad that Occupy Boston, advertisers and some media are now concerned. However, I find it ironic and indicative of white privilege that there’s a hullabaloo now that some white people from Occupy Boston are offended. In years past, Carnell and also Boston Police Patrolmen’s Association President Thomas “Tom” Nee have espoused views offensive to African-Americans, Africans, Latinos, Muslims, Homosexuals, Women, Immigrants… you get the picture.
